Our take

Is this the right course for you?

Bradford’s nursing BSc offers something rare twice over: a choice of three NMC fields — adult, children’s and mental health — at a fee band (£16,100–£16,890) near the bottom of the English market. The field choice matters strategically: mental-health nursing carries England’s most persistent vacancies and strongest sponsorship arithmetic, and children’s nursing places are scarce nationally. Bradford’s health faculty places students across West Yorkshire’s trusts, the city’s South Asian communities ease arrival, and three years of Yorkshire rents keep the total cost of becoming a UK nurse about as low as it gets. Degree-holders should read our routing note: a two-year pre-registration master’s is usually the better door.

Why Bradford

What makes this course at Bradford different.

Three fields, one application

Adult, children’s and mental-health options under one roof — including the two shortage fields with the strongest job arithmetic.

England’s budget nursing degree

A band from £16,100 with Yorkshire rents — the lowest total cost to the register we list at BSc level.

A familiar city

Bradford’s established South Asian communities make the three-year relocation gentler for students and visiting families.

West Yorkshire placements

Trusts across Bradford and Leeds supply the placement half of the degree — and hire from their own students first.

What you study

Indicative course content.

  • Foundations of nursing in your chosen field
  • Applied life sciences and pharmacology
  • Field-specific practice (adult, child or mental health)
  • Evidence-based practice and leadership
  • Placements across acute, community and specialist settings

Entry requirements

What you need to apply.

  • School-leaving qualifications at A-level equivalent — HSSC/FSc, CBSE/ISC and WAEC thresholds published; foundation routes available
  • Care insight or experience strengthens applications
  • IELTS commonly 6.5–7.0; plan for the NMC standard (7.0 overall, 6.5 writing, or OET B)
  • Health clearance and enhanced DBS before placement

English language

Bradford asks IELTS 6.0 as standard — clinical courses often ask more.

Bradford expects a formal English test from most international applicants. Bradford does not publish a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter route, so plan for a formal test. It does, however, accept strong school-level English for some markets: typically 70% in English within CBSE/CISCE Class XII for India, and WAEC/SSCE English Language at C6 or better for Nigeria. Pakistani applicants are usually asked for IELTS or an accepted alternative.

Also accepted: PTE Academic 62 (59 in each part), Duolingo English Test 110 (100 in each subscore), TOEFL iBT 80, Oxford ELLT 6 (5 in each sub-test), BASALT — Bradford’s own English test, 6.0 (5.5 in each sub-test). Pre-sessional English is available if you fall short.

Careers

Where this course takes you.

  • NHS Band 5 registered nurse in your field across Yorkshire
  • Mental-health field: England’s strongest nursing job market
  • Children’s field: scarce skills with national demand
  • Band 6 specialist progression within 2–4 years

Your country

Applying to Bradford from your country.

From Pakistan

Bradford publishes clear equivalencies for Pakistani qualifications: HSSC/Intermediate at 60% is treated as roughly 96–119 UCAS points, 65% as 120–135 and 70% as 136+, while for Master’s entry a CGPA of 2.5/4.0 is read as a UK 2:2 and 3.0 as a 2:1. Bachelor degrees of three years or less usually need two years of relevant work experience on top. Budget carefully for the deposit — applicants from Pakistan currently pay £10,000 (not the standard £5,000) before a CAS is issued. On the plus side, the Bestway Foundation funds five full Master’s scholarships worth around £35,000 each for Pakistan-domiciled STEM students, and the city’s long-established Pakistani community makes settling in unusually easy.

From India

Class XII (CBSE, CISCE and most state boards) at around 70–80% maps to roughly 96–136+ UCAS points for undergraduate entry, and a bachelor’s at 60% is typically read as a UK 2:2, with 65–70% needed for a 2:1 or first. Usefully, Bradford accepts 70% in English within CBSE/CISCE Class XII in place of IELTS. Two things to note: applicants to MSc International Business Management from Punjab and Haryana are currently asked to pay the full tuition fee in advance, and India’s CAS and deposit deadline for September 2026 is 21 August.

From Nigeria

WAEC/SSCE alone does not qualify for direct undergraduate entry — students typically join via the International Foundation Year at the University of Bradford International College. For Master’s, an honours degree assessed as a UK 2:2 or above is expected. Bradford accepts C6 or better in WAEC/SSCE English Language (and the NABTEB equivalent) instead of IELTS, which saves both money and time. The university also has an in-country representative and a wide agent network across Lagos, Abuja and other cities.

From the UAE

Holders of the UAE General Secondary Education Certificate usually need a foundation programme before starting a bachelor’s degree, while postgraduate applicants are assessed on the standard GPA scale (2.5/4.0 for a 2:2, 3.0 for a 2:1). Bradford runs a Regional Hub at Dubai Knowledge Park — home of its Executive MBA in Dubai — so you can get face-to-face advice without leaving the Emirates. UAE nationals currently sit in the £2,000 tier of the Global Scholar Award.

FAQ

BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult, Children’s or Mental Health) at Bradford — common questions.

Which field should I choose?

Employment arithmetic favours mental health — England’s most persistent nursing shortage — with children’s nursing a close second on scarcity. Adult nursing offers the broadest role range but the most competition in popular cities. We match the field to your interests and the 2026 job market honestly.

Is this really England’s cheapest route to the register?

At BSc level, effectively yes — fees from £16,100 plus Yorkshire living costs. Only the two-year graduate master’s routes (for those who already hold degrees) reach the register for less total spend.

Does the degree lead to NMC registration?

Yes — NMC-approved pre-registration training in your chosen field, with registration eligibility on completion. No CBT or OSCE applies to UK-trained graduates.

What English level do I need?

Admission commonly asks IELTS 6.5–7.0; the NMC registration standard is 7.0 overall (6.5 writing) or OET B. Start preparing at the higher bar and the final step never blocks you.

Fees, entry requirements, English-language policies and intake dates are correct to the best of our knowledge at the date shown, but universities review them every cycle and immigration rules change.
