🇵🇰 Pakistan → UK
From IBCC and HEC attestation to the 28-day bank statement rule, we guide Pakistani students through every stage of a UK application — universities, offers, CAS and the Student visa.
Overview
Pakistan is one of the largest markets for UK universities, and it is the market we know best — most of our students apply from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and the wider Punjab. A UK application from Pakistan has its own specifics: HSSC and A-Level certificates need IBCC equivalence, degrees and transcripts are usually HEC-attested, two-year bachelor's degrees need careful handling for postgraduate entry, and the Home Office's 28-day bank statement rule catches out more applicants than any other requirement. We handle all of it, from your first free consultation through to the day you land in the UK.
For undergraduate courses, universities typically ask for HSSC (FSc/FA) or A-Levels with IBCC equivalence — many accept HSSC directly onto a bachelor's degree, sometimes via an integrated foundation year. For a master's, UK universities usually expect 16 years of education: a four-year bachelor's (BS/BSc Hons), or a two-year bachelor's followed by a master's. A two-year BA/BSc alone is usually not enough for direct entry, though some universities consider strong work experience or offer a pre-master's route — we advise on this case by case.
Most of the universities Pakistani students choose ask for IELTS 6.0–6.5 overall for postgraduate courses and around 6.0 for undergraduate, with alternatives such as PTE Academic and the Oxford ELLT widely accepted. Several universities will also consider a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter from an HEC-recognised Pakistani university on a case-by-case basis, typically for recent graduates — policies differ by university and course, so we confirm the current position before you apply.
You must show first-year tuition fees (minus any deposit already paid) plus living costs: currently £1,171 per month outside London or £1,529 per month in London, for up to 9 months. The funds must sit in the account for 28 consecutive days, and the statement's closing date must be within 31 days of your visa application. Funds can be in your name or a parent's name (with a consent letter and proof of relationship). We check your bank statements before you submit anything.
What it costs
| Tuition fees | Typically £14,000 – £22,000 per year at the universities Pakistani students most often choose |
| Living costs | Budget around £1,171 per month outside London and £1,529 per month in London — the Home Office maintenance rates. Many students in cities like Bradford and Sunderland spend less in practice. |
| Student visa fee | £558 to apply from Pakistan (approx. PKR 208,000, depending on the exchange rate), paid online with the IHS. |
| Immigration Health Surcharge | Immigration Health Surcharge: currently £776 per year for students. A one-year master's visa (usually granted with around four extra months) typically costs about £1,164 in IHS. |
Figures last checked July 2026.
Student visa
Once you accept an offer and pay your deposit, the university issues a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). You then apply online, pay the £558 visa fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge, and book biometrics at a visa application centre in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad or another VFS centre. Applicants from Pakistan staying longer than six months also need a TB test certificate from a Home Office-approved clinic. The most common refusal reasons we see are avoidable: bank statements that don't meet the 28-day rule, and weak credibility interview answers — we prepare you for both. FAQ
Yes — study gaps are common and usually acceptable when explained. Most universities are comfortable with gaps of a few years for postgraduate applicants, especially with work experience letters to cover the period; undergraduate courses tend to prefer shorter gaps. A clear explanation in your statement of purpose is what matters, and we help you write it.
Sometimes. Several UK universities will consider a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter from an HEC-recognised Pakistani university, typically for recent graduates, and most accept alternatives such as PTE Academic or the Oxford ELLT. MOI policies change every cycle and differ by course, so we always confirm the current position with the university before you rely on it.
Usually not on its own — UK universities typically expect 16 years of education, meaning a four-year bachelor's or a two-year bachelor's plus a master's. If you hold a two-year BA/BSc only, options include a pre-master's programme or, at some universities, entry based on substantial relevant work experience. We assess this for you before you spend money on applications.
You need your first-year tuition (minus any deposit paid) plus living costs: currently £1,171 per month outside London (£10,539 for 9 months) or £1,529 per month in London (£13,761). The money must be held for 28 consecutive days, with the statement dated within 31 days of your application. Parents' funds are fine with a consent letter and proof of relationship.
Only in limited cases. For courses starting on or after 1 January 2024, dependants are only allowed if you are studying a PhD or other doctorate, a research-based higher degree, or you are a government-sponsored student on a course longer than six months. Students on taught master's and bachelor's degrees currently cannot bring dependants.
Degree-level students can currently work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during official vacations. Self-employment and freelance work are not allowed on a Student visa. Part-time earnings help with living costs, but the Home Office does not count expected earnings towards your financial requirement.
The Graduate Route currently gives you 2 years of post-study work if you apply on or before 31 December 2026; for applications from 1 January 2027 it reduces to 18 months. Doctoral graduates get 3 years. During this time you can work at any skill level and switch into a Skilled Worker visa when you find a sponsoring employer.
Yes — most of the universities we work with offer international or vice-chancellor scholarships for Pakistani students, typically worth £2,000–£5,000 off the first year's tuition, awarded on academic merit and usually applied automatically or via a short application. Note that scholarship discounts reduce your fees but cannot be counted as maintenance funds for the visa.
Fees, entry requirements, English-language policies and intake dates are correct to the best of our knowledge at the date shown, but universities review them every cycle and immigration rules change. Always treat figures as a guide — we confirm the exact, current requirements with the university before you apply.
