Our take

Is Bradford right for you?

Bradford is the university we recommend most often to students who care about value. International fees sit below the UK average — £16,100 to £16,890 for undergraduate degrees and £15,700 to £19,500 for most Master’s in 2026/27 — and living costs are among the lowest of any English university city, so budgets stretch noticeably further than in Manchester or London. The academic case is strongest in health: a GPhC-accredited MPharm (including a five-year route with foundation training built in), a well-regarded Master of Public Health, and clinically focused Master’s aimed at overseas pharmacists and health professionals. Rankings are climbing too — Bradford broke into the QS world top 500 in 2026. The city has one of Britain’s largest South Asian communities, so halal food, mosques and familiar groceries are everywhere, and Leeds is around 20 minutes away by train. Be aware of two trade-offs: Bradford is a modest, post-industrial city rather than a glamorous one, and competitive courses fill early — the MPharm closed to applications well before September 2026.

Founded 1966 (roots back to 1832).

English language

IELTS 6.0 overall (no band below 5.5) — typical requirement.

Bradford currently expects a formal English test from most international applicants. Bradford does not publish a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter route, so plan for a formal test. It does, however, accept strong school-level English for some markets: typically 70% in English within CBSE/CISCE Class XII for India, and WAEC/SSCE English Language at C6 or better for Nigeria. Pakistani applicants are usually asked for IELTS or an accepted alternative.

Also accepted: PTE Academic 62 (59 in each part), Duolingo English Test 110 (100 in each subscore), TOEFL iBT 80, Oxford ELLT 6 (5 in each sub-test), BASALT — Bradford’s own English test, 6.0 (5.5 in each sub-test). Pre-sessional English courses are available if you fall short.

Intakes

When you can start.

January September

September is the main intake across all levels. Most Master’s degrees also run a January start (classes began 20 January in 2026), and a small number of courses and pathway programmes have a May start. Competitive courses close early — the MPharm stopped accepting applications for September 2026 months in advance, so apply as early as you can.

Entry requirements

Applying to Bradford from your country.

From Pakistan

Bradford publishes clear equivalencies for Pakistani qualifications: HSSC/Intermediate at 60% is treated as roughly 96–119 UCAS points, 65% as 120–135 and 70% as 136+, while for Master’s entry a CGPA of 2.5/4.0 is read as a UK 2:2 and 3.0 as a 2:1. Bachelor degrees of three years or less usually need two years of relevant work experience on top. Budget carefully for the deposit — applicants from Pakistan currently pay £10,000 (not the standard £5,000) before a CAS is issued. On the plus side, the Bestway Foundation funds five full Master’s scholarships worth around £35,000 each for Pakistan-domiciled STEM students, and the city’s long-established Pakistani community makes settling in unusually easy.

From India

Class XII (CBSE, CISCE and most state boards) at around 70–80% maps to roughly 96–136+ UCAS points for undergraduate entry, and a bachelor’s at 60% is typically read as a UK 2:2, with 65–70% needed for a 2:1 or first. Usefully, Bradford accepts 70% in English within CBSE/CISCE Class XII in place of IELTS. Two things to note: applicants to MSc International Business Management from Punjab and Haryana are currently asked to pay the full tuition fee in advance, and India’s CAS and deposit deadline for September 2026 is 21 August.

From Nigeria

WAEC/SSCE alone does not qualify for direct undergraduate entry — students typically join via the International Foundation Year at the University of Bradford International College. For Master’s, an honours degree assessed as a UK 2:2 or above is expected. Bradford accepts C6 or better in WAEC/SSCE English Language (and the NABTEB equivalent) instead of IELTS, which saves both money and time. The university also has an in-country representative and a wide agent network across Lagos, Abuja and other cities.

From the UAE

Holders of the UAE General Secondary Education Certificate usually need a foundation programme before starting a bachelor’s degree, while postgraduate applicants are assessed on the standard GPA scale (2.5/4.0 for a 2:2, 3.0 for a 2:1). Bradford runs a Regional Hub at Dubai Knowledge Park — home of its Executive MBA in Dubai — so you can get face-to-face advice without leaving the Emirates. UAE nationals currently sit in the £2,000 tier of the Global Scholar Award.

Healthcare professionals

Already qualified in healthcare? You may not need another degree.

Qualified pharmacist already?

A pharmacy MSc alone does not license you to practise in the UK. Overseas pharmacists register with the GPhC through the OSPAP programme.

Qualified nurse already?

If you already hold a nursing qualification, NMC registration (CBT + OSCE) may be faster and cheaper than a second degree — and leads straight to UK employment.

FAQ

University of Bradford — common questions.

Is the University of Bradford a good university?

Yes — and it is improving. Bradford climbed into the world top 500 in the QS World University Rankings 2027 (497th) and rose 12 places to 69th in the Guardian University Guide 2026. It is strongest in health subjects: Paramedic Science and Optometry rank in the UK top three nationally, and the MPharm is fully GPhC-accredited.

How much are University of Bradford tuition fees for international students in 2026/27?

Undergraduate degrees cost £16,100 per year for classroom-based courses and £16,890 for lab-based and health courses, including the MPharm. Most taught Master’s cost £15,700 (classroom) or £19,500 (lab-based and health). Distance-learning and Executive MBAs are priced separately from £21,200.

Does the University of Bradford accept a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter instead of IELTS?

No — Bradford does not publish an MOI letter route, so most applicants need a test. The standard requirement is IELTS 6.0 with no band below 5.5, and alternatives such as PTE Academic 62, Duolingo 110 and Bradford’s own BASALT test are accepted. Indian applicants with 70% in CBSE/CISCE Class XII English and Nigerian applicants with WAEC English at C6 or better can usually skip IELTS altogether, and a pre-sessional English course is available if you fall slightly short.

How much deposit do I need for a University of Bradford CAS?

The standard deposit is £5,000 towards tuition (or an official sponsor letter) before Bradford issues your CAS. Applicants from Pakistan and Bangladesh currently pay £10,000, and some MSc International Business Management applicants from specific regions of Pakistan and India must pay the full fee in advance. Deadlines are strict — for September 2026 entry they fall in early-to-mid August.

Does the University of Bradford have a January intake?

Yes. Most taught Master’s degrees offer a January start alongside the main September intake — January 2026 classes began on 20 January. Undergraduate degrees are mostly September-only, and a small number of courses also run a May start. We generally advise applying three to six months before your chosen intake.

What scholarships can international students get at Bradford?

The Global Scholar Award is applied automatically to self-funding international students — currently £5,000 off for Pakistani, Indian and Nigerian nationals, with £2,000–£4,000 tiers for other countries. Pakistani students can also apply for one of five Bestway Foundation scholarships worth around £35,000 covering fees, accommodation and a stipend, and Bradford regularly hosts fully funded Chevening scholars.

Does the University of Bradford offer the OSPAP for overseas pharmacists?

No. The OSPAP is currently offered only by Aston, Brighton, Hertfordshire and Sunderland — see our OSPAP guide for a comparison. Bradford does, however, run a GPhC-accredited MPharm and an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy and Healthcare Leadership designed specifically for non-UK registered pharmacists, which suits those wanting UK clinical experience without pursuing GPhC registration.

What is Bradford like for Pakistani and Indian students?

Few UK cities feel as familiar. Bradford has one of Britain’s largest South Asian communities, so halal food, mosques, mandirs and desi supermarkets are part of everyday life — it is regularly crowned the UK’s curry capital and was UK City of Culture 2025. Living costs are among the lowest of any English university city, and Leeds is around 20 minutes away by train for part-time work and weekends.

Fees, entry requirements, English-language policies and intake dates are correct to the best of our knowledge at the date shown, but universities review them every cycle and immigration rules change. Always treat figures as a guide — we confirm the exact, current requirements with the university before you apply.
