Our take

Is Greenwich right for you?

The University of Greenwich is usually the first name we mention when a student wants a London degree at the lowest realistic cost. Most 2026/27 international fees are £17,975 for undergraduate courses and £18,700–£19,450 for taught master's — several thousand pounds below many London competitors — and the automatic early-applicant scholarships (£3,500 for postgraduates, £7,000 spread across an undergraduate degree) bring that down further. The main campus is genuinely spectacular, set in the World Heritage Old Royal Naval College on the Thames, with health courses at Avery Hill and pharmacy, science and engineering at Medway in Kent. It suits students who value affordability and community over league-table position: rankings are modest, but the Nigerian and South Asian student communities are among the largest in London, and the GPhC-accredited MPharm and MSc Global Public Health are consistent favourites with our applicants. One planning point: nationality-based pre-CAS payment rules currently mean Pakistani applicants pay their full first-year fee before a CAS is issued, so budget early.

Fees & funding

What Greenwich costs international students.

Undergraduate tuition£17,975 – £19,400 / year
Postgraduate tuition£18,700 – £21,375 / year
Deposit to secure your CAS£3,000

Standard 2026/27 international fee is £17,975 a year for most classroom and lab-based degrees, including the MPharm; pre-registration nursing degrees are £19,400. Fees are reviewed each year, so confirm the figure on your course page. Most taught master's cost £18,700–£19,450 a year for international students in 2026/27; the MBA programmes are around £20,800 and a few specialist courses (such as FinTech) reach around £21,375. A £3,000 deposit currently secures your place before the CAS process begins. Greenwich also applies nationality-based pre-CAS payment rules: applicants from Pakistan are currently asked to pay 100% of first-year tuition before a CAS is issued, applicants from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka typically 50% (100% for Punjab and Haryana), and much of Sub-Saharan Africa around 50%. These rules change at the university's discretion, so we confirm the current position before you pay anything.

English language

IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 5.5) — typical requirement.

Greenwich currently expects a formal English test from most international applicants. Greenwich does not list Medium of Instruction (MOI) letters among its accepted English evidence — but it publishes generous school-level waivers instead. Indian students with 65% in Standard XII English are exempt from IELTS (not applicable to Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh or Uttarakhand boards), and Nigerian students with WAEC/NECO SSCE English at C6 or above are also exempt. A full bachelor's or master's degree completed in a majority English-speaking country waives the requirement too. Pakistani and UAE applicants should plan for an approved test.

Also accepted: PTE Academic (scores mapped band-for-band, from 51 for IELTS 5.5 equivalent), Duolingo English Test 95–130 depending on course level, Oxford ELLT 6–7, Indian Standard XII English 65% (most boards), Nigerian WAEC/NECO English C6 or above. Pre-sessional English courses are available if you fall short.

Intakes

When you can start.

January September

September is the main intake with the full course range; a broad selection of undergraduate and taught master's courses also start in January, with recent application deadlines around mid-December. Standard postgraduate IELTS is 6.5 (5.5 per skill); most undergraduate courses ask for 6.0, and nursing requires 7.0. Because pre-CAS payment requirements are higher for some nationalities, we recommend applying three to four months before your intake.

Entry requirements

Applying to Greenwich from your country.

From Pakistan

Greenwich publishes Pakistan-specific requirements: FA/FSc/ICom/HSSC with a minimum of around 70% for undergraduate entry, and for taught master's a four-year bachelor's degree with at least 60%, or a two- to three-year degree plus a master's at 55–65% depending on the course. No HSSC English waiver is published, so plan for IELTS 6.5 (5.5 per skill) or an accepted alternative — and note that Pakistani applicants are currently asked to pay 100% of first-year tuition before a CAS is issued, so financial planning matters more here than at most universities.

Full guide for Pakistan

From India

For undergraduate entry Greenwich typically asks for Standard XII with a minimum of 65%, obtained within the last two years; taught master's usually require a bachelor's degree with 55% in the final year, reduced to 50% for graduates of Mumbai, Pune, Calcutta, Delhi, Bangalore and Madras universities. Students with 65% in Standard XII English are exempt from IELTS (except Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand boards). Applicants from India currently pay around 50% of first-year fees before CAS — 100% for Punjab and Haryana — so apply early.

From Nigeria

Greenwich is one of the most popular London universities with Nigerian students, and it shows in the support: WAEC/NECO SSCE English at C6 or above exempts you from IELTS, there is an in-country representative, and taught master's typically require a four-year bachelor's degree at Second Class Lower (2.2) or above. Undergraduate applicants usually enter via A Levels, IB or a foundation year through Greenwich's international college. Applicants from much of Sub-Saharan Africa are currently asked for around 50% of first-year fees before a CAS, so budget for a larger upfront payment.

From the UAE

Students applying from UAE schools with A Levels, IB or Indian/Pakistani board qualifications are assessed against those curricula; holders of the UAE national secondary certificate (Tawjihiyya) typically need a foundation year through the university's international college first. For taught master's, Greenwich asks for a bachelor's degree with a GPA of around 2.8/4.0 or 70% for 2:2-equivalent entry. UAE nationals currently pay only the standard £3,000 deposit before CAS, and both the September and January intakes work well from the Gulf.

Healthcare professionals

Already qualified in healthcare? You may not need another degree.

Qualified pharmacist already?

A pharmacy MSc alone does not license you to practise in the UK. Overseas pharmacists register with the GPhC through the OSPAP programme.

OSPAP guide

Qualified nurse already?

If you already hold a nursing qualification, NMC registration (CBT + OSCE) may be faster and cheaper than a second degree — and leads straight to UK employment.

Need an English test?

We prepare healthcare applicants for OET as an alternative to IELTS — accepted by the NMC, GMC and GPhC, and often the easier test for clinical professionals.

FAQ

University of Greenwich — common questions.

What is the University of Greenwich ranked in 2026?

Greenwich is ranked 102nd in the Complete University Guide 2027 and in the 801–850 band of the QS World University Rankings 2026. It is a teaching-focused modern university, so we suggest weighing course accreditation — such as the GPhC-accredited MPharm — and London employability over the headline rank.

How much are University of Greenwich fees for international students in 2026/27?

The standard 2026/27 international fee is £17,975 a year for most undergraduate degrees (nursing is £19,400), while taught master's typically cost £18,700–£19,450. MBA programmes are around £20,800. That makes Greenwich one of the cheapest London universities for international students, and automatic early-applicant scholarships reduce it further.

What deposit does the University of Greenwich require for a CAS?

A £3,000 deposit is required before the CAS process begins. On top of that, Greenwich currently applies nationality-based rules: Pakistani applicants are asked for 100% of first-year tuition before CAS, Indian, Nepali and Sri Lankan applicants typically 50% (100% for Punjab and Haryana), and much of Sub-Saharan Africa around 50%. We confirm the current requirement for your nationality before you pay.

Does the University of Greenwich accept a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter instead of IELTS?

No — Greenwich does not list MOI letters among its accepted English evidence. However, it publishes country-specific waivers that often work out better: 65% in Standard XII English exempts most Indian applicants, and WAEC/NECO English at C6 or above exempts Nigerian applicants. Everyone else should plan for IELTS (6.5 overall for master's, 6.0 for most undergraduate courses) or an alternative such as PTE Academic.

Does the University of Greenwich have a January intake?

Yes. September is the main intake, but a broad range of undergraduate and taught master's courses also start in January, with application deadlines usually around mid-December. A £2,500 Regional Scholarship has been offered for January starters from selected countries, so January can be a genuinely good-value entry point rather than a fallback.

What scholarships can international students get at the University of Greenwich?

The headline awards are automatic for early applicants who meet deposit deadlines: £3,500 off first-year fees for taught master's students and £7,000 spread across an undergraduate degree. The separate International Scholarship Award offers up to £3,000 for September entry via a short application, and a £2,500 Regional Scholarship has run for the January intake.

Does the University of Greenwich offer OSPAP for overseas pharmacists?

No. The GPhC-accredited OSPAP providers are currently Aston, Brighton, Hertfordshire and Sunderland — Greenwich is not on that list. Greenwich's pharmacy offer is the four-year GPhC-accredited MPharm at Medway plus pharmaceutical sciences master's, which suit school leavers and science graduates rather than already-qualified overseas pharmacists seeking UK registration.

Is the University of Greenwich good for Nigerian and South Asian students?

It is one of the most popular London choices for both groups, with large, active Nigerian, Indian and Pakistani societies and an in-country representative for Nigeria. The WAEC English waiver, comparatively low London fees and the riverside Greenwich campus are the usual deciding factors. Budget around £1,300–£1,400 a month for London living costs, slightly less if you study at Medway in Kent.

Fees, entry requirements, English-language policies and intake dates are correct to the best of our knowledge at the date shown, but universities review them every cycle and immigration rules change. Always treat figures as a guide — we confirm the exact, current requirements with the university before you apply.
