University of Huddersfield • Huddersfield
Computer science with three intakes a year — Yorkshire costs, and the Leeds–Manchester tech corridor waiting at graduation.
Our take
Huddersfield’s Computer Science MSc runs the university’s signature combination — three intakes a year and Yorkshire’s cost base — for the tech market, with a graduation geography between Leeds and Manchester that doubles the northern job hunt. Leeds has built one of the UK’s significant digital and fintech clusters; Manchester’s tech scene is the largest outside London; and Huddersfield students commute to interviews in both. The band holds £18,700–£21,000, and the course serves graduates deepening a computing background, with strong adjacent-field converts considered. For self-funded students who want a tech master’s without southern totals, this is the balanced pick between our budget and London options.

Why Huddersfield
September, January and May starts — calendar slack no southern computing school on our list offers.
Leeds’ fintech cluster and Manchester’s tech scene both commutable — twice the interviews per application season.
Mid-band fees plus England’s low-cost county keep the year financeable without London debt.
Computing sits inside a substantial engineering faculty — labs, projects and industrial links included.

Entry requirements
English language
Huddersfield expects a formal English test from most international applicants. Huddersfield states it will not normally waive the English requirement for students who completed a programme taught in English in their home country — so a Medium of Instruction letter is not accepted in place of a test. Budget for IELTS, PTE or an accepted alternative from the outset; health courses usually need higher bands (nursing typically IELTS 7.0).
Also accepted: PTE Academic 59 overall (minimum 59 in each component), TOEFL iBT 87 overall, Cambridge C1 Advanced grade C, Trinity ISE II (B2) and LanguageCert International ESOL. Pre-sessional English is available if you fall short.
Careers
Your country
Huddersfield has a recruitment office in Pakistan and considers HSSC applicants for undergraduate entry typically at around 60% overall; students below that can route through the International Study Centre foundation. For master's entry, both 2-year and 3-year Pakistani bachelor degrees are considered — typically at around 55-60% — which is more flexible than universities that insist on 16 years of education. MOI letters are not accepted, so sit IELTS (6.0 overall, 5.5 per band for most courses) or PTE early.
Full guide for PakistanIndian applicants are typically considered with Standard XII at around 60-65% for direct undergraduate entry, and a bachelor degree at around 55-60% (second class) for most taught master's courses — requirements vary by course and board, so ask us to pre-check your transcripts. India is on the GREAT Scholarships list, worth £10,000 towards a one-year master's, alongside the university's automatic merit scholarship. An MOI letter will not replace an English test here.
Full guide for IndiaHuddersfield's published Nigeria guidance references WAEC/NECO at grade C6 or above, and the university has an in-country recruitment presence. For master's entry a good bachelor degree (typically second class) from a recognised Nigerian university is usually required. Nigeria is a GREAT Scholarships country for 2026/27. English evidence is assessed case by case — do not rely on an MOI letter, as Huddersfield does not normally waive the English requirement.
Full guide for NigeriaApplicants from UAE curriculum schools typically need a foundation year (available via the International Study Centre) before undergraduate entry, while students with A Levels, IB or strong CBSE grades from UAE schools can be considered for direct entry. For master's courses a recognised bachelor degree at a good standard is usually required. Many UAE-based applicants are working professionals — the January and May intakes in business and computing are useful if you miss September.

FAQ
September, January or May — three intakes, unusual for a computing master’s. The May window in particular rescues spring applicants who would otherwise lose half a year.
Fees of £18,700–£21,000 for 2026/27 plus Yorkshire living costs around £700–£900 a month — a total that undercuts London computing degrees by five figures.
Not primarily — programming competence is expected at entry, though strong adjacent-field converts (maths, engineering) are considered. Zero-start career switchers fit BCU’s conversion MSc better, and we route honestly.
Bigger than most applicants assume: Manchester runs the largest tech scene outside London and Leeds has a genuine fintech cluster. Both commute from Huddersfield, and software roles sponsor heavily for Skilled Worker visas.
Fees, entry requirements, English-language policies and intake dates are correct to the best of our knowledge at the date shown, but universities review them every cycle and immigration rules change. Always treat figures as a guide — we confirm the exact, current requirements with the university before you apply. Facts on this page last checked July 2026.
