January 2027 Intake for Pakistani Students: Universities, Funds and Visa

For a Pakistani student, the January intake is usually a second chance rather than a first choice: September slipped because the IELTS result came late, the family's funds were not seasoned in time, or a visa was refused. That makes January 2027 attractive — and it makes the calendar unforgiving, because everything a Pakistani applicant must do, from the TB test to the 28-day bank rule to biometrics at VFS, has to fit between now and early December.

This guide is written specifically for applicants from Pakistan. It covers which universities have a genuine January intake and how they currently treat Pakistani applications, what the money looks like in rupees, the TB test timing, the pre-CAS credibility interview, the visa submission calendar, and what a January arrival is actually like. For the general January picture, our January vs September comparison and month-by-month timeline are the companions to this article.

The short answer

  • Apply now. Most January applications close between mid-November and mid-December; the visa must be submitted by early December.
  • Money in rupees: for a one-year master's outside London, around PKR 3.9 million in maintenance plus first-year tuition, held untouched for 28 days from late October, plus roughly PKR 660,000–680,000 in visa, health surcharge and TB costs.
  • TB test in October, at an approved clinic, valid for six months.
  • Expect a credibility interview before the CAS, and at some universities a higher pre-CAS payment for Pakistani applicants.
  • Check recruitment status. At least one university has paused recruitment from Pakistan in the current cycle; others ask for the full first-year fee before a CAS. Confirm before paying anything.

Which universities have a real January intake — and how they treat Pakistani applicants

Roughly 30–40 UK universities run a January start with a meaningful course list. Among those we profile, the strongest January intakes for the subjects Pakistani students most often choose — business, computing, data science, public health, engineering, nursing — are these:

UniversityJanuary 2027 strengthNotes for Pakistani applicants
Birmingham City UniversityBroad: International MBA, LLM, MPH, MSc Computer Science, BSc Adult NursingAutomatic international scholarships; CAS Shield process with credibility interview
University of GreenwichBroad undergraduate and master's list; deadlines around mid-DecemberPre-CAS payment requirements are higher for some nationalities — apply three to four months ahead
University of SalfordBusiness School, most science and engineering master's, a few nursing pathwaysPopular health master's closed early for September 2026 — apply early
University of SunderlandBusiness, computing and public health, especially at the London campusOSPAP and health professional courses are September-only
Teesside UniversityMPH, computing, data science, business — also a May startThree-intake year gives a fallback if January slips
University of WolverhamptonNearly as broad as September for master'sNot every course runs in every intake — check
University of BradfordMost master's; classes began 20 January in 2026Large South Asian community in the city
Robert Gordon UniversityData science, project management, international business, public healthScottish semester dates differ slightly — check the enrolment date on your CAS
University of HertfordshireBusiness, computing and engineering master'sOSPAP and pre-registration health courses September-only
Kingston UniversityGood master's selection; a few undergraduate coursesPostgraduate deposit deadline was early February for January entry in recent cycles
University of BrightonAccounting (ACCA), Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Marketing£5,000 deposit due before CAS issue

Two cautions specific to Pakistan. First, Coventry University's regional page listed recruitment from Pakistan as paused when we checked in July 2026, and Pakistani applicants there had been asked for the full first-year fee before a CAS rather than a deposit; pauses are reviewed each cycle, so confirm the current position before applying. Second, several universities apply higher pre-CAS payment requirements to nationalities with weaker visa metrics — Pakistan included at some institutions — which changes your cash-flow timing. The full list of institutions and their January courses is on our January intake page, and our Pakistan hub tracks recruitment status.

The money, in rupees

Maintenance rates rose in November 2025 and many Pakistani agents still quote the old figures. At roughly PKR 373 to the pound, the current requirement looks like this:

ItemGBPApprox. PKR
Maintenance, outside London (£1,171 × 9)£10,5393.93 million
Maintenance, London (£1,529 × 9)£13,7615.13 million
First-year tuition (minus deposit paid)Typically £15,000–£20,0005.6–7.5 million
Student visa fee£558208,000
Immigration Health Surcharge (16-month visa)£1,164434,000
TB testapprox. £4014,000–15,000

The rule that decides Pakistani applications is not the amount but the 28 days: the maintenance money must sit in an acceptable account, in your name or a parent's, for 28 consecutive days, with the closing balance dated within 31 days of the visa submission. For an early-December application that means the money must be in place and untouched from late October. Lump sums arriving in November, funds split across several relatives' accounts, and statements without a bank letter are the three most common Pakistani refusal patterns. Our bank statement guide sets out the format, and our visa price guide breaks down every cost in PKR.

The TB test: book it for October

Any UK visa of more than six months from Pakistan requires a tuberculosis test certificate from a UKVI-approved clinic, submitted with the application. The certificate is valid for six months from the X-ray date and must still be valid on the day you apply. For a January intake the timing is simple: test in October, apply in late November or early December, and the certificate is comfortably within validity. Testing in August "to get it done" risks expiry if anything slips. Our TB test guide lists the approved clinics and costs.

The credibility interview, before and after the CAS

Pakistani applicants should expect two interviews. The first is the university's own pre-CAS screening — a 15–30 minute online interview testing why this course, why this university, why the UK, how you are funding it and what you plan afterwards. Universities run it to protect their own visa refusal metrics, and a poor performance means no CAS. The second, less common but possible, is UKVI's credibility interview during visa processing. Prepare once, properly, for both: know your modules, be able to explain the funding story in detail, and have a coherent answer about returning to Pakistan or using the Graduate Route. Our pre-CAS screening guide and visa interview questions guide cover what is asked.

The visa calendar from Pakistan

WhenWhat
Now–OctoberApply to universities; sit IELTS Academic or UKVI IELTS if needed; verify each university on the sponsor register
OctoberAccept offer, pay deposit or pre-CAS payment; maintenance funds into the account by late October; TB test
NovemberPre-CAS interview; CAS issued — check every field against your passport; apply online, pay £558 plus IHS, book biometrics at VFS in Islamabad, Lahore or Karachi
Early DecemberBiometrics — the 15-working-day clock starts here; treat 5 December as the hard line; consider priority (£500) if later
Late DecemberDecision; passport back; book flights with winter buffer
JanuaryArrive several days before enrolment; enrol by the published latest date

Biometrics appointments in Pakistan thin out as December approaches, and the decision window runs into the Christmas closure, when universities shut for a fortnight and cannot fix a CAS error or answer a UKVI query. Get the CAS checked and the application submitted in November wherever possible. Our processing time guide covers the standard and priority services, and if you want the application reviewed before submission, our Islamabad consultancy does exactly that.

Dependants, work and the Graduate Route

Three things Pakistani families ask about January in particular. Dependants: since January 2024 only postgraduate research students and government-sponsored students can bring family on a Student visa — a taught master's, whatever the intake, cannot. Our dependant rules guide explains the exceptions. Work: up to 20 hours a week in term time on most degree courses, and a January cohort competes for part-time jobs against fewer new arrivals than September. The Graduate Route: for applications from 1 January 2027 it is 18 months for a master's, identical whichever intake you started in.

Arriving in January

You land in the coldest, darkest fortnight of the British year — sunrise after 8am, dark by 4pm, temperatures near freezing — often in a city where the university has just reopened after the Christmas closure. It is entirely manageable with a coat, a plan for the first week and realistic expectations of a smaller welcome than September's. Bank account, GP registration, phone contract and travel card all take longer than you expect; our guide to arriving in the UK in January sequences them.

The five mistakes Pakistani January applicants make

  1. Funds moved in November. The 28-day rule is arithmetic; late money is a refusal.
  2. Applying to a university that has paused Pakistani recruitment, or that requires a full-fee payment the family cannot make by the CAS deadline.
  3. TB test done too early and expiring before the visa is submitted.
  4. Treating the pre-CAS interview as a formality. It is the gate to the CAS.
  5. Submitting in mid-December on standard processing and hoping the decision beats the holidays.

Frequently asked questions

Is the January intake good for Pakistani students?

Yes, for business, computing, data, public health and engineering master's at universities with a genuine January list. It is not an option for OSPAP, pharmacy or most nursing degrees, which are September-only.

How much bank balance is needed for the January 2027 intake from Pakistan?

First-year tuition minus any deposit, plus £10,539 (about PKR 3.9 million) outside London or £13,761 (about PKR 5.1 million) in London, held for 28 consecutive days ending within 31 days of the application.

When is the last date to apply for January 2027?

University deadlines run from mid-November to mid-December, but plan on funds seasoned by late October and the visa submitted by early December.

When should I do the TB test for a January intake?

In October. The certificate is valid for six months and must be valid on the day you submit the visa application.

Which universities are not accepting Pakistani students in 2026/27?

Coventry listed recruitment from Pakistan as paused when we checked in July 2026, and some others require the full first-year fee before a CAS. Status changes between intakes, so confirm with the university or with us before applying.

Can I bring my spouse on a January master's?

Not on a taught master's. Only postgraduate research students and government-sponsored students can bring dependants on a Student visa.

The January intake rewards Pakistani applicants who treat it as a project with a fixed end date rather than a rolling application.
